From one shore to another

Learning French by relying on the mother tongue of migrants, and artistic tools.

The project “D’une Rive à L’Autre” will run from December 2016 to June 2017.

This pilot experiment is carried out in partnership with two ALPHA associations. “Au Petit Soleil” (Herstal) and “MSFO” (Jemeppe-sur-Meuse).
Our hypothesis is that: learning French will be more profound and lasting, taking into account the mother tongue of the learner. By relying on his mother tongue, the learner maintains a carnal and emotional relationship that he can gradually transfer to the French language, creating a bridge. Hence the title of the project “D’une Rive à l’Autre”.

The idea of ​​this pilot experiment came to us after reading the work of a linguist who found that there is an unconscious fear of losing one’s mother tongue when one learns another. This explains in part why some migrants can sometimes stay 10 years in Belgium or France, and still have not mastered the French language …
